I've officially known about my trip with Bike and Build for a little over 2 months. And I've raised about $900 towards my $4,500 goal. While $900 seems like quite a bit of money, it's hardly a smidgen of what is raised each year by Bike and Build members.
Thanks to my wonderful school in Memphis, fundraising has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Starting in kindergarten, we did wrapping paper sales every holiday season until I was in high school. We also had Community Fund which hosted an assortment of fundraisers throughout the year. It never seemed difficult for the student body to raised over $15,000 in a short amount of time... Until I was asked to raise $4,500 by myself in a matter of 6 months. I guess I had never thought about how much effort really goes into fundraising.
So far, I have received donations mostly from posting on social media and sending brochures to work with to my incredible parents and wonderfully supportive boyfriend. One of my donations has came from a friend of mine who hosts jewelry auctions each week. It is her means of money to get through college. Anna, the brilliant mind behind Anna's Armoire, generously donated $1 from each item sold in an auction she held on January 29. From this auction, she was able to donate $75 to my fund! I bought a piece of jewelry from this auction, like I have many other times, but when I received my package from her, there was a special note inside that really boosted my somewhat defeated fundraising spirits.
Just a simple handwritten note is all it took to reignite my fire. It's time to start thinking outside the box and instead of just fundraising, I need to be FUNdraising. I have about 10 days to gather $150 for donations to meet my next deadline of $1000. If you are interested in donating, please visit the links at the top of my blog homepage. You may also email me if you have any questions or suggestions!
